Moments in Nature > One of the rules in photography is to always keep an eye open in back of your head. Often while trying to compose a photo in front of you, there is something equally as exciting or better going on behind you. Driving through Wyoming one evening into tthe sun I happened to glance in the rearview mirror and saw what the sun was doing to the hills!

Moments in Nature > Just before entering the East gate of Yellowstone, we came upon this moose calf and her mother grazing along the side of the road. It was very encouraging to start seeing animals before even entering the park.

Moments in Nature > Stopping for a picnic late in the evening after a long day of shooting, I captured this image of a lone tree hanging onto the cliff by the edge of the lake. It was a beautiful and peaceful scene - except for being eaten alive by mosquitos.

Moments in Nature > This is Morning Glory Pool near Old Faithful. It is so hard to capture the beauty and colors in this scene. It's a different experience every time I photograph it.

Unfortunately, some of our natural wonders like this are being ruined by tourists. The park rangers vacuum hundreds of pounds of tourist trash out of the bottom (or source) of this pool every year. That trash lowers the temperature of the water.

Since the brilliant colors are caused by bacteria and/or algae growth that are temperature dependent (blue algae grow in hotter temperatures, brown in coolor) the vivid colors are starting to disappear. If we don't stop ruining it, our grandchildren will just see a brown pool of hot water :(
